February 18, 2006

The weather has turned very cold; we awoke to 18 degrees below zero this morning. The sun was out all day and it did manage to struggle up to 4 degrees by the middle of the afternoon. I was snug and warm in the shop as I continued work on the lathe bench I started last weekend. I began by installing a partition to contain the drawer needed for the lathe tools. I will also have a cabinet below the drawer. Since the original bench top was a single layer of 3/4" plywood I decided it needed another layer since a lathe needs to be mounted on a very solid surface. After installing a second layer of plywood I covered the top 1/4" tempered hardboard to match the other work surfaces. I finished out the day by installing the maple counter top edge.
